Kayce D. W. Keane, PLS

President of Boulder Land Consultants

Kayce Keane started her career in 2003 on the back of her Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics (Concentration in Physics with a Minor in Astronomy). After graduating college, she began land surveying in western North Carolina. She then took over 30 hours of coursework from the ABET-accredited Surveying and Mapping Science program at East Tennessee State University (2004-2005). This expedited earning her first license in North Carolina in the spring of 2007. Upon moving to Boulder, she attained her land surveying license in Colorado (2009) as well as Wyoming (2012). In 2012, she received her Master of Science in Geographic Information Science.

Her experience includes working on a variety of boundary surveys, CDOT Right of Way Plans, mineral surveys, bathymetric surveys, windfarm projects, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys on private commercial and government-owned properties.
Since 2008, Kayce has fervently served the Colorado land surveying community by serving in leadership roles for a number of organizations including the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado (PLSC), GIS in the Rockies and Rocky Mountain Surveyors Summit.

Kayce has written a handful of articles for the Colorado Publication ‘Side Shots’. She has received awards from the PLSC for her dedication to the profession including ‘Surveyor of the Year’ in 2020. Lastly, she has won several plat contests at the statewide conference for her submitted maps.

In her free time, she enjoys skiing, mountain climbing, mountain biking, camping, gardening, and spending time with her incredible family (two beautiful fun little girls and a loving supportive husband).

Jason Emery, PLS

Colorado Professional Land Surveyor No. 20134, Deputy Boulder County Surveyor, Project Principal & Project Manager

Jason Emery has been a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Colorado since 1983.
He founded Boulder Land Consultants in 1987 and served as its President through 2021.
Currently, Jason performs duties as BLC’s Senior Land Surveyor and Resident Expert on legal
matters relating to his profession. Emery served as the Boulder County Surveyor for three four-
year terms. He is a longtime member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado, enjoying
several awards for his service to the organization. Jason continues to offer educational Land
Surveying Presentations to peers as well as to other interested parties such as the Realtor and
Title Insurance Communities.

Terry Pickering, PLS

Project Manager

Terry Pickering started land surveying in Boulder County back in 1998. He obtained his Colorado Professional Land Surveying license in 2013. Over the past 20+ year, he has worked on a variety of surveys; Improvement Survey Plats, Mineral Claims, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, CDOT Right of Way Plans and corridor surveys. His project experience ranges from small residential surveys to large scale commercial/government sites. Terry has years of experience in performing crew chief responsibilities and is supplemented by his project management experience. In addition to his thorough research, drafting and boundary analysis skillset, he is our primary trainer for new employees. Terry’s diverse background and experiences makes him an ideal teammate. He’s a true ‘field to finish’ land surveyor.

A native of New Jersey, he emigrated to Colorado in 1994. He has a beautiful wife and two little doggies. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his friends and family.

Curtis Klopfer

Junior Project Manager

Curtis is a graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Geography with an emphasis in Geographic Information Systems. He started land surveying in 2022 and since then has gained a variety of experience in the profession. He enjoys working on a multitude of projects including Improvement Survey Plats, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Construction Quality Control, Subdivision Plats, and especially Mineral Claims. Field or office, Curtis is ready to take on anything. Recently, he has been taking classes to further his knowledge of the field and accomplish his goal of becoming a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor.

In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, offroading, and spending time with his dog Kona.

John “Jack” Craig

Crew Chief

Jack was born and raised on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. He attended Western Maryland College, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Honors Program and earning a B.A. in Psychology and B.A. in Sociology. He continued his education at the University of Maryland, earning a M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Jack’s career in Land Surveying commenced on the east coast where he started an instrument man. He is continuing his Land Surveying career in Colorado as a Survey Technician and aspires towards a career in the profession.

After spending the majority of his life in the Mid-Atlantic, Jack relocated to Colorado in June of 2021. In his free time, Jack enjoys hiking, camping, adventuring, gardening, playing soccer, and live music. He is an avid fan of the Maryland Terrapins, Baltimore Orioles, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He is currently learning how to play the guitar.

Ashley Hamlin

Survey Technician
Ashley is a graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she received a bachelor’s in environmental studies and EBIO (ecology and evolutionary biology). Before land surveying, Ashley worked for an environmental consultant company processing benthic macroinvertebrate population data. In 2025 she joined Boulder Land Consultants as a surveying technician. Her love of the outdoors and knowledge of Colorado’s natural landscape makes her well suited for the job.

Ashley is a Colorado native who enjoys skiing, cooking, hiking and spending time with her cat Socks.

Elise Hill

Office Administrator

Elise, a proud Boulder native, serves as the Office Administrator for Boulder Land Consultants. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences from Kansas State University and is also a Registered Dental Hygienist (make sure you floss!). She has previously managed a bakery, worked as a personal assistant and chef, and traveled around the country as a nanny. Elise is known for her friendly demeanor and exceptional organizational skills, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment in the office.

When she’s not at work, Elise looks forward to watching her beloved Kansas State Wildcats in both college football and basketball. She also enjoys skiing and camping with her family.
